What is a mammogram, exactly?   An x-ray scan of the chest is called a mammogram. Mammograms are used by doctors to check for early signs of breast cancer. Screening mammograms and diagnostic mammograms are the two types of mammograms.   What is a mammogram screening?   A screening mammography is one that is performed on women who have no symptoms or indicators of breast cancer. Breast cancer deaths for women aged 40 to 74 can be reduced with regular mammography screening. What Exactly is a Mammogram? A mammogram is a type of X-ray that examines the breast. It is used to detect and diagnose breast disease in women who have breast complaints, such as a lump, pain, or nipple discharge, as well as in women who do not have breast complaints. The procedure detects breast cancers, benign tumours, and cysts prior to palpation (touch).   Mammography cannot prove that an abnormal area is cancer, but if it raises a strong suspicion, tissue will be removed for a biopsy.
